  Location
Domaine HAURET-BALEINE
15 hectares of vineyards situated in the village of Tigné (Maine et Loire).
The major part (9 hectares) Cabernet Franc, then Cabernet Sauvignon (3 hectares), Gamay (1 hectare), Chenin (2 hectares) in the areas of the controlled origin labels ANJOU VILLAGES, COTEAUX DU LAYON.
3 Plots compose the estate and each of them is different from the others by its soil and its subsoil. However, these 3 plots are geographically close to each other with no neighbourhood, which a a major advantage as for the organic farming.
  History
From a vineyard held by the same family over several generations is a plot with an extraordinary asset. Seven hectares are there surrounded by stone walls up to 2,50 m high and are designed as the clos "le Grand Riou". The thick walls help create a microclimate, there are no air currents and the stones store heat, thus ensuring a better early maturation of the grapes. In the back part of this walled vineyard remain the ruins of a 15th century castle which was partly destroyed and burnt during the Vendée wars. On the photo, a turret at one of the corners of the plot.
  Information
In 1997 we decided to convert ourselves to the organic farming, a way of production which is extremely defined, regulated and controlled. An independant certification body QUALITÉ-FRANCE regularly controls our production. We must now become aware that organic farming appears as an absolute necessity for the survival of our soils, our rivers and for our health.
Each new vintage is now perceived as a step towards renewal and liberty.
  Farming and certifications
1-Methods of cultivation limiting the yields (no fertilizer, adapted thinning and pruning methods),
2-Mechanical soil working , aerating, decompacting, composting, energization of the microbial life,
3-No chemical products, no weed-killers, no insectides, no pesticides, but use of natural methods and products such as phytotherapy, seeweeds, Bordeaux mixture and sulphur at low doses
4-Manuel harvestings.
  Wine-making process
Our whole production is made in our cellar situated in Martigné-Briand. We use modern means for making our wine : thermo-regulated stainless vat, vertical hydraulic press, oak barrel with a stainless ceiling...
Restricted use of sulphur in the wine-making process (-50 %).
Maximum use of physical means, exclusion of chemical addings.
Bottling of our production at the Domaine.
Average production volume : 600 hectolitres.
Storage in our underground cellar.
  Our vines
The different grape varietes grown on our vineyard make it possible to make a large range of wines, i.e. :

- Red wines,
- White wines (dry or sweet)
- Rosé wines (dry or half-dry).
